К 250-летию со дня рождения великого русского архитектора Карло Росси в свет вышли две книги: монография М.Н. Микишатьева и альбом Б.М. Кирикова. Эти исследования концентрируют внимание читателей не на биографии мастера, изобилующей интересными подробностями, а на его архитектурном наследии, преобразившем Санкт-Петербург. Помимо наиболее значимых проектов приводятся и менее известные – например, деревня Глазово для военных инвалидов с ажурными избами в русском стиле (сохранился эскиз). Но больше всего строения Карло Росси ассоциируются с последней победоносной фазой классической архитектуры – ампиром. Благодаря ему были оформлены центральные площади императорского Петербурга: Дворцовая, Адмиралтейская, Сенатская и Исаакиевская. Уникальный ансамбль Росси с Александринским театром стал лебединой песней зодчего, чьё имя сегодня воспето в названии прилегающей улицы.

Rossi – Architect of Russia

Two books commemorating the 250th anniversary of the great Russian architect Carlo Rossi have been recently put out: a monograph by M.N. Mikishatyev and an album by B.M. Kirikov. These research publications draw the readers’ attention not only to the biography of the master, which is full of interesting details, but also to his architectural legacy that has transformed the appearance of St. Petersburg. Along with the most significant projects, the author acquaints the reader with the architect’s less known ones, such as, for example the village of Glazovo for disabled army veterans with cottages adorned with wood carved ornaments (in a preserved sketch). However, most of Carlo Rossi’s buildings are associated with the last victorious phase of classical architecture – the Empire style, in which the central squares of the imperial St. Petersburg were designed: Dvortsovaya, Admiralteiskaya, Senatskaya. The unique ensemble of the Alexandrinsky Theater became the swansong of the great Architect, whose name is immortalized in the adjacent street.
