In October 2025, the book Murals of the Pokrovsky Cathedral at Rogozhskoye was presented to the cultural community. The idea to produce this richly illustrated publication belongs to Mikhail Abramov, whose intention was to popularize the beauty of Old Russian culture. The 2-year preparation of this book for publication involved leading specialists in many areas. The album part is preceded by four articles: the first two are devoted to the history of the Rogozhskaya Sloboda; the establishment of the Center of the Old Believers’ Culture; and the architectural decoration of the cathedrals of this ensemble. Special emphasis is placed on revealing the name of the author of the Pokrovsky Cathedral’s design – I.I. Marchenkov, assistant of the famous architect M.F. Kazakov. The two other articles are about the study of the cathedral’s murals and their biblical plots. It was found that the cathedral was adorned by a team of Moscow icon artists P.I. and M.I. Sapozhnikov, as well as by craftsmen from Mstera and Palekh. The complex iconography of the Mother of God Acathistus cycle, is a true example of “theology in painting”, has also been analyzed.
Key words: I.I. Marchenkov, M.F. Kazakov, P.I. and M.I. Sapozhnikov, Pokrovsky Cathedral at Rogozhskoye Cemetery, Old Believers, Old Russian art.
