My Life. Automonography
Igor Grabar
Vasily Kandinsky’s theory cited in the previous article received a controversial response by his contemporaries. Igor Grabar, art historian, art critic and museum organizer, did not welcome this innovation stating this in his book “My Life.Automonography”, fragments from which are being presented to the reader. The author engages in another debate with Malyavin, ascertaining that “neither a landscape, nor portrait, nor anything in painting is capable of stopping…” and that the evolution of the genre picturing Russian nature will follow the path of impressionism. In the concluding chapter entitled “Outcomes and Prospects” I.E. Grabar recalls many achievements he was able to accomplish thanks to his “obsessive passion for art”.
